1000 Mile Challenge Upadte!!

Richard hopes to finish his ‘1000 Miles in 1000 Hours’ Challenge this Friday 10th July at approx 2.20pm on Newmarket Racecourse where he will be joined by Lester Piggott and walk the last stretch up the home straight to the winning post.

Richard’s penultimate week on the Bury Road was an incredible one and he was honoured to be joined by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum on Thursday who walked a mile with him to show his support for the ‘1000 Miles in 1000 Hours’ challenge and the four charities that will benefit. Earlier in the week, Sheikh Mohammed made an extremely generous donation to the challenge and is once again leading by example.

Richard was also joined this week by Frankie Dettori and greatly inspired by the example set on Friday by JP McNamara and Paul Stewart who are both recovering from spinal injuries, yet walked up and down the road with Richard to highlight one of causes which this challenge supports.

His last week is also set to be a busy one and he will be joined on Monday by cricketing legend, Mike Holding, former jump jockey Mick Fitzgerald, as well as 40 ‘Racing Welfare ladies’, plus on Tuesday by jockeys Frankie Dettori (again!) and on Wednesday by rugby playing legend, Dean ‘Deano’ Richards and racing pundit and TV presenter, John McCririck, who thinks he may struggle to do a mile at all!

There are also bound to be lots of other people walking with Richard during every mile and his ‘pied piper’ type figure has become something of a fixture on the Bury Road…!

By Friday, Richard will have spent 42 days sleepless days and nights to raise money for Racing Welfare, Alzheimer’s Society, Sparks and Spinal Research.
