News - Richard Dunwoody - 1000 Mile Challenge update!

As he breaks mile 750 and heads into the last 10 days, Richard Dunwoody will be joined on Wednesday 1 July by one of sport’s most famous faces, jockey Frankie Dettori. Frankie is even claiming that he may try and break the fastest mile time (13.02) set by Declan Murphy, although acknowledging that “Declan is bigger than me so it may not be possible!”. Richard will also be joined on Friday 3 July by former jump jockey, JP McNamara, who three years ago faced the prospect of never being able to walk again, but now will attempt 10 miles with Richard, quite a remarkable achievement. Paul Stewart, son of leading racehorse owner, Andy, will also join Richard and JP and plans to walk a mile, in recovery from a recent severe snowboarding accident. Richard will then be joined on Monday 6 July, by cricketing legend, Mike Holding and Grand National-winning jockey, Mick Fitzgerald and on 8 July by TV presenter and racing pundit, John Mcririck with his wife Jenny. Racing Welfare, one of the four benefitting charities, will also be holding a ‘Ladies Day’ lunch on 6 July hosted by Mike Cattermole, with the 40 ladies attending all walking a mile. Richard hopes to finish the ‘1000 Miles in 1000 Hours’ Challenge on Newmarket racecourse on 10 July walking with racing legend, Lester Piggott – details to follow!
